The Associate in Science degree program is intended either for those students who wish to earn an Associate in Science degree and who are seeking full-time employment upon completion of their program of studies or for students who wish to earn an Associate in Science degree and who then wish to transfer to a four-year college upon completion of their program of studies. The academic course work will provide the foundation for lifelong learning and will provide a core of transferable college coursework which, if augmented by additional classes, would allow the student to transfer to a four-year college. In addition, the program of studies is designed to meet the transfer admission requirements of the California State University system provided the necessary additional courses are successfully completed.

Don Bosco Technical Institute currently offers an Associate in Science degree in Computer Science, Construction Technology, Design, Electronics & Computer Technology, Graphic Communications, Materials Science, Manufacturing, and Power & Transportation.

Associate in Science Degree Course Requirements

Don Bosco College's general education program, in conjunction with the various technology majors, seeks to help students become literate and effective participants in the Knowledge Age. The college's general education requirements help introduce students to the many ways through which people comprehend the modern world. Students develop knowledge of the common principles, concepts, and modes of inquiry of the major disciplines. The required sequence of courses provides opportunities for growth in knowledge, understanding, application and practice in communication, mathematics, science, humanities, and information-processing. The college provides opportunities for students to develop their imagination and creativity, higher-order thinking skills (e.g., analysis, synthesis, evaluation), as well as problem-solving and planning skills. Specifically, the general education requirements form a pattern of learning experiences designed to develop the following insights and capacities in all students, regardless of their ultimate educational goals:

  • Understanding of the tenets of Christian faith, styles of worship and values for ethical living;
  • Ability to think clearly, logically and analytically;
  • Appreciation and understanding of culture, society, and self;
  • Ability to locate, examine and critically evaluate information;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Understanding of basic principles, applications, and problem-solving techniques in mathematics and natural science;
  • Understanding of political and economic systems and issues in order to be better informed and more responsible citizens.
