Program: The Bosco Tech tennis team has evolved from a club sport in 1990 to a competitive
team in 1993. The team practices and plays at nearby Whittier Narrows Tennis Center in South El Monte. The program stresses sportsmanship, hard work, conditioning, fundamentals and improvement. Participation will develop mental toughness, tennis strokes, footwork, hand-eye coordination and knowledge of the game.
League: Camino Real which consists of Don Bosco Tech, La Salle, Bishop Amat, St. Monica
Bishop Montgomery and Cathedral high schools.
Classification: Division V of the ClF Southern Section.
Levels of competition: Varsity, Junior Varsity (Two Levels).
Competitive season: February to May.
2003 Season Highlights: After a one year hiatus, Bosco Tech tennis returned to its winning
ways. Last season, under coach Gaba's direction, our JV1 team won league with an undefeated record of 8-0.
Varsity came in second in league with a 6-2 record and made it into the CIF Play-Offs. The team continues
to be a no-cut program. The third team, JV2, was competitive and looks to provide us with solid players in
the years to come.
Coaching Staff: Each coach has been part of the program for years but moved into new roles
two years ago, Coach Rudy Herrera serving at the Varsity level and coach Jeff Gaba at the JV level.
Mission Statement: Our mission is to have fun, strength our relationships with God and with
each other, to compete with perseverance and win. We will respect ourselves and our competitors. We can only
complete and productive athletes when working together as a team.
The junior varsity level stresses fundamentals, rules of the game and gaining competitive match experience.
